If the transparent material used is not too old, why not to try to
obtain a sample with ColorChecker SG size to shot and measure under
the same conditions than art work protectec with such material?.
Supossed to be glass.
I use to do that when papers are temperature and relative humidity
afected and don´t remains at the base of repro stand, where use to
place any 2D artifacts that fit in it, and avoid damages that can
happen in vertical position.
And the lights are not directed to the artifact avoiding shadows from
the frame and in a black painted room.
Kodak´s Q only serves for visual aproach to consitency at same light
conditions: illuminant and power, except if you have Imatest software.
Some thigs that don´t understand:
- If there is not movility of artifacts and you, or the the
institution, or the owner, don´t have to pay insurance policy, can
propose a curator to extract the art from the frame.
- ColorCheckers and similars are supposed to obtain an optimized image
by means of numeric values for the colour patches and the surrounding
under a fixed iluminant: the surrounding, for me, is what is back of
the card: jewelry, canvas, paper, metal, mud... I don´t shot
ColorChecker to obtain a well reproduced CC, but to render colours the
best way that it can depending on quality of chart, source of light,
sensor, lens, software and the rest of the harware implied.
