Hello,
This question is directed to the graphic designers who create images and
to
those who print them. (I know the question is long, but the answer can be
short!)
Based on your experience, what is the CMYK space most used for graphic
design in North-America, Europe, and/or Asia?
More specifically, I would like to have an idea of the CMYK space(s) most
used when specifying a CMYK spot color for color-accurate work.
---------------------------
Additional info:
I am not looking for the color space used when printing (although it
could
be the same), since I expect a profile conversion to be done at/for
prepress.
Will it be a Pantone color selected in Photoshop's (or other app) color
picker? (I suspect this happens a lot!) (Of course, whether or not this
color is treated separately thereafter as a Pantone spot color or
converted
by the app to the CMYK working space is important)
Will the color be selected visually in Photoshop's (or other app) CMYK
color
picker?
Will the color be picked in the Pantone CMYK 4-color process booklet
(Solid-to-Process)?
Will the color be picked in a CMYK color book? (Which color book?)
Other?
Looking at Photoshop/Illustrator CS3 and CS4, one would be tempted to say
that these are the most common CMYK spaces used to create documents (just
copy and paste the following lines if this is your answer):
North-America: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
Europe: FOGRA27 (ISO 12647-2; 2004)
Japan/ (Asia?): Japan Color 2001, Coated
Is Photoshop 5 Default CMYK still seen a lot nowadays?
---------------------------
I am not looking for the "best-but-no-one-uses-it" selection. I am also
NOT
looking for the most common space of past years. I am looking for what is
used today and likely to be used in the near future (will CS5 have the
same
regional defaults?).
Are you selecting the default Adobe settings for your region? If not,
what
do you select? What are other designers using?
For the printing people, when you receive a file with no embedded
profile,
what do you assume the CMYK space to be in this case?
Thanks to all for your input.
Danny
