Of course, the ones which have no clue never ask for accurate spot colors...
(Sorry, I was day-dreaming for a few seconds!)
I would deduce then that when a customer asks you what to do, you specify
ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc and tell them (if required) how to set their system up
for this working space.

assign ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc (FOGRA39L) to the PDF. If it looks really
horrible contact the customer maybe they forgot to embed the profile.
If they have no clue then I try different profiles until I get
pleasing results.
