As I've done large-ish charts, both in terms of page size and patch count, here's my (3) 6x6mm patches worth....

Firstly, Measure Tool...

* No way that I know of to modify the default limits of page size and patch size.

* Max page LENGTH appears to different for the iSis and iSisXL...while you can get 24-26" on the small iSis, with the iSisiXL, it seems you can only get about 18-19", assuming 6x6mm patches....

* ...this difference in max page length appears to do with the maximum number of *patches*. Max patch per page for BOTH models of iSis appears to be limited to about 2,450 patches no matter what (I think I counted 2,449 for the iSis and 2,448 for the iSisXL at one point).

* Opinion: how stupid is it that you can't fit a normal IT8.7/4 in landscape mode on the iSisXL in Measure Tool but you CAN do it in ColorPort? ColorPort allows one extra column (49) of patches for the iSis that Measure Tool can't seem to give.

* Never bothered to use Measure Tool with the DTP70 since I could never get it to work (unsupported?) on the Mac and didin't want to bother dealing with Windows just to measure a chart....so ColorPort was my software of choice for the '70.

 ColorPort....

* As a couple have noted, you can hack ColorPort to give you longer than "default" page lengths and patch sizes. Pretty simple once you know what files to edit.

* I've personally done DTP70 charts as long as 24" and iSis charts as long as 36". But, at least on the DTP70, reliability suffers past about 18" (iSis is MUCH better at feeding reliably compared to the '70 in my opinion). Key thing on the DTP70 is keeping the rollers clean and "de-glazed" of paper debris. Also helps to shove the media into the rollers and bit to get a good "bite" on the substrate. Thick media sucks on the DTP70.....the iSis seems to handle anything that I can throw at it....I'll keep my '70 but there's no doubt in my mind that the iSis is the better machine in terms of build quality and media handling.

* Overall, I prefer the chart building process in ColorPort expect for a couple of things....doesn't support the bar code feature of the iSis....and if you want to measure a chart with both "UV-cut" and "no filter" in ColorPort, you must pass the chart through the instrument twice...Measure Tool can measure with BOTH filters with a single pass of the chart through the iSis...and, yes, I know that it *actually* measures it twice but it's still a single feed through the instrument.

I think both pieces of software make the chart-building process a bit more difficult than it has to be. Frankly, I'll use GMG software more often than not to build the matrix of device values and then simply export and then import the values in Measure Tool or ColorPort to build my chart.

Later,
Terry
