Lots of DTP70 owners won't give up their units for the iSis which can't load as broad a range of thick media (like 400-500gsm canvas, cotton rag, etc).

That surprises me a bit Scott as I've found the opposite to be true....thicker than about 18 micron canvas is a crap shoot on the DTP70 but the iSis seems to handle the thicker materials just fine. I think one key is the fact that the iSis has a more "positive" feed mechanism (heavy stainless rollers riding on the media and drive rollers) while the DTP70's feed mechanism seems to built poorly, especially the top "rollers" with their flimsy spring mechanism.

Story:
I remember one of my very first outings with the DTP70 many moons ago. Before I had the '70, the iCColor was my auto-spectro of choice.
One of my first press jobs with the '70, I included IT8.7/4 charts formatted for the '70 but also decided to hedge my bets and include a couple long-and-skinny iCColor charts at the gripper/tail of the press sheets. We did about a 4,000 sheet run and I pulled about 10 samples to measure and average. The "sheets" were actually a carton stock and were aqueous coated (think thick and slick!). After I dutifully cut out all the charts, I started to measure them with the '70....couldn't get the damn things to feed reliably at all due to the thickness and, mainly, the slipperiness of the charts....tried several tricks such as running strips of masking tape on the backside of the targets to try and "get a grip" and give the rollers some traction. Nothing would work reliably.

Finally, I decided to cut down the iCColor charts and give one of those a try....worked like charm. Only thing "special" I had to do on the iCColor was remove the back "U-turn" piece so the charts could feed straight through. Had I not hedged my bets with the iCColor charts, a 4,000+ sheet press run would've been wasted.

:-)

Terry Wyse
