Hey Thom-
Got your message just now. I've been in and out of email/voice range for the past couple of days. No work at Adobe right now. We've got a company-wide shutdown for a week. :)
What's your question about InDesign?

You have to go into the package contents of the Colorport application and
edit a file named 020.DTP70.xml. To be safe, copy the file somewhere safe,
just in case you mess something up. In the .xml file, there are all of the
minimums and maximums for patches. Leader and tail, and page sizes, all in
millimeters.
I had to edit this to be able to read a DTP70 chart that was scaled down a
bit. I don't recommend going much under 6mm. I read a chart at 5.5mm with a
few patches misread.

Colorport's limitation is 15" long! You have to brew your own (as Bill
did) to get around this.

No, the smaller patches increase the likelihood of measurement failure
(think red light and ejection during measurement). Bill's targets are
visually wonderful though and that can be surprisingly helpful.

I find that I get better results with a 1728 patch target via Monaco
Profiler (MP) than any number of patches in PMP. I'd take a close
look at how much benefit you think you might get with more patches
than what Bill's targets already provide.

Oh, that's helpful! I just tried this and it works great - thanks!
Looks like Derek's got his answer. Warning - XRite's defaults and
limitations are there for a reason. If you use smaller patches and
longer lengths you will certainly increase your measurement failure
rate.

It's also not well known that x.25mm and x.75mm patch size increments
should be avoided on the DTP70. Only x.0 and x.5 values should be
used.If you make the charts with x.25 and x.75mm increments and
measure them in Photoshop you'll see that they aren't accurate.
Naturally this causes measurement failure, but the DTP70 finds it hard
to detect. What happens is the 70 reads along the lines of the patches
at the right side of the target. You can make a profile from it but
the quality will be poor. XRite has admitted to having this problem
but hasn't addressed it yet.

Derek,
There seems to be a limit to the length of a page for the DTP70/iSis (a tool
I neither have nor use); the cutoff is at around 14 inches of length, after
which the following patches jump to the next page. I am not aware of the
reason for this.
With the EyeOne Pro there are no such restrictions in length.

The iSis has a maximum page length of 26 inches. I don't know about the maximum length of the DTP-70.
Presumably this is a limit imposed by the drivers. The more daring could probably drive the iSis directly and make the length as long as wanted...

Steve

Hi all,
In the context of using ColorSyncManager functions/methods in
Objective-C programs written using X-Code:
Does anyone have any idea where the new functions for ColorSyncManager
(presumably 64bit focused) are documented? The only information I can
find lists the new functions but does not document them. (Application
Services Reference Update. dated 2009-8-28 lists the names but has no
reference links to either the complete description or reference
documentation.)
The ColorSync.framework (C-)headers are completely changed from the
earlier X-Code /Leopard release
In addition to this, a huge number of fundamental ICC elements seem to
be probably(?) deprecated now. (I am making the dprecation assumption
although I can find no specific record in anything except headers =>
In X-code 3.2.1 they are now shown in a new header file labelled
"ColorSyncDeprecated.h.") Worryingly, the (probably?) deprecated
elements include a large quantity of 'enum's which are fundamental
elements in ICC versions from at least 2.1 onwards. I have seen some
info on data 'type' issues with 'enum's in 64bit code in "64 bit
Transition Guide for Cocoa".
An updated version of ColorSyncManager reference is a possible missing
link (last update was 2005).
Are we just seeing Apple getting a bit ahead of themselves with the
early SnowLeopard release and not tying up the loose-ends in ColorSync
for X-Code?
A link to the new documentation or even just a date for the
documentation release would be helpful (Apple please?)

I've read Atkinson's HUGE single-sheet targets (4096 patches) ?with my
iSis XL. At some point for rgb you have enough patches.
I do about 1500 patches with my custom Barbieri LFP/Argyll one-button
profiling software, and the results seem equivalent to the big targets
with PMP.
All the targets in question are here:

Um, the limit is 15 inches and, as Bret pointed out, one can override
ColorPort's DTP70 limits and defaults by modifying the 020.DTP70.xml
file. The limits are well reasoned so one should be careful overriding
them.
> The more daring could probably drive the iSis directly and make the

Or do so on the DTP70 as well. Lots of DTP70 owners won't give up
their units for the iSis which can't load as broad a range of thick
media (like 400-500gsm canvas, cotton rag, etc). The DTP70's smaller
headers and footers also mean that one can make 1728RGB and IT8.7CMYK
targets that fit on a smaller single page than the iSis.
