Monaco, great as they are at making normal output profiles, is not ideal for
DVLs. However, you should be getting better results than that.
One thing, there's no need to set your TAC at 300% in the proofer (output)
profile, you can run it up to 400%. There is an option for keeping a pure
black, but no option to keep pure primaries, which is a good thing in the
case of a Kodak Approval. I've gotten better results with Device Links
created by ColorThink Pro, and I imagine that the higher-end products like
Alwan and Link-O-Lator would do an even better job.
It strikes me that Kodak has essentially thrown in the towel with the
Approval, by conceding that the way it was originally designed to work is
simply not compatible with the modern SWOP and GRACoL standards. The Device
Link really turns it into a big inkjet in a way, with contaminated solids to
match the true ISO inks. Add to that the fact that any relationship between
the Approval's screening and the screening done by different platesetters is
totally accidental, I see no rational reason to continue using these beasts
aside from explicit customer requests.
