Marco
I don't know what others may wish to use Preview for but I certainly don't
use it to modify images in any way. All I want it to do for me is to hand
an image to the printer driver without mucking about with it. I have a
powerful image editing application in gimp and I have spent long enough
using it to believe I can achieve quality no less than people using
photoshop. Admittedly, you have to get a little more low-level with some of
the utilities but the basic functionality is all there. Hence, I baulk at
the idea of shelling out big dollars just for something to sort out the
printing end of the equation with redundant features.
Thanks to someone else for the tip on buying an old version of CS4. As of
last night my thoughts were that it would probably be just as easy to buy a
new copy of photoshop elements and just use it for printing the images I
work on in gimp and also profiling targets. It would cost me more to
purchase Qimage and pay for vmware Fuzion (which I have but the demo ran
out!) as an alternative. Although I do often layout odd sizes and multiple
images on a single sheet for proofing and economy so Qimage would add
something to my workflow. I currently manage this using a script in gimp to
make a single image from any number of images open in the current workspace.
It works well but is not so flexible and it's another step in the process.
Still, if someone here jumped up and down and told me Qimage is the best
thing since sliced bread I might consider it!
Thanks again for all the considered responses. Thanks also for the dumb
ones as well!
Cheers
J
