Re: Monitor Needed
Re: Monitor Needed
The NEC branded i1 and the new and improved Spectraview2, altough a
solution aimed to NEC monitors could be easily employed to profile
other large gamut displays, right?
I'm using this combination on very inexpensive LGs with good results...

Hi Jim,
The software combined with the device is the issue. The i1 pro (as a
spectro) does give you exact readings and therefore works correctly
with i1
Match on the HP display. But, the i1 Display 2 has neither a built-in
correction for the HP 2475´s LG 102% NTSC S-IPS panel nor does i1
Match
3.6.2 offer such a correction for the i1 Display 2.
Therefore I would not recommend using the i1 Display on a wide gamut
display
unless you have a software that does a correction for wide gamut
displays.
Given the many different panel type and wide gamut backlight
combinations
out there, I doubt that there will an exact correction offered for a
colorimeter. However, I know that some third party software
developers work
on generic correction as a compromise.

Raimar,
That's a bit of alarming news!
I have the HP LP2475w, which is a relatively inexpensive wide gamut
display, and I'd like to learn more about the calibration issues!
I use i1Match 3.6.2, an i1 Pro, and an i1 Display. When using the i1
Pro to calibrate the HP monitor, is the software the issue, or is the
i1 Pro also not able to deal properly with a wide gamut display?
Thanks!

There are many good PVA and IPS units available for less than 500
USD.
However, more and more of them are equipped with wide gamut panels
and the
EyeOne Display (like any other desktop colorimeter) will give wrong
readings
on a wide gamut display. As the i1 Match software does not support
wide
gamut corrections, there is no way out of this. Therefore, given the
device
you want to use for the calibration, a standard gamut unit like e-
IPS based
DELL that Peter mentioned is more likely better suited than a wide
gamut
unit.

And the HP monitors?
I'm not referring to high end Dream Colors, but the to mid range...

Dell 2209WA seems to be the best monitor (for colour work) for low
money at the moment. But I have not had the chance to see it
"live"
yet.
