Is there anyone in Q&E testing this prior to release? Who if anyone is the ColorSync product manger these days?
I agree about the ColorSync Utility. It's a classic example of a forgotten app that could be really fantastic were it to get more attention. The 3D gamut comparisons are too lousy to use but could be fantastic with some simple tweaking. Internal profile renaming could be super easy for a new user. The filters have promise but not enough control was given to make them usable by professionals. Filters are awkward to use and there isn't a place when people can go to learn more about them. If one does a search for "ColorSync" at http://developer.apple.com they'll get some ancient articles, some of which are over 10 years old!
Long ago are the days of John Zimmerman's webcast (2003?) introducing the ColorSync Utility and it's capabilities. Long ago are the days when we (or even Apple Consultant's) could have dialog with that group and provide real world applications and suggestions. The ColorSync Utility doesn't appear to have been improved at all since then and some things don't work as well as they used to. I would be great to see Apple refocus their efforts in this area for the sake of professionals (and by that I mean photographers, designers, illustrators, printmakers and the rest). Apple has always been such a good platform for us!
