I premised my statement by saying that I am not a Windows user.
My statement may be "wrong", but I didn't dream up the many complaints that
I have heard from CM users on Windows, or the fact that VISTA was a flop.

"Transition away from LAB"? Meaning what, exactly? Even CIECAMs and "smart"
CMMs work with Lab and/or XYZ.

Knowledgeable people at Apple most likely already know the advantages of
CIECAMs over "colorimetric-only" color management. They are just not being
encouraged or requested persuasively or firmly enough by their CM user base
to step up and catch up with the times.
The loss of someone like Bruce Fraser, who both had the ears of the top
echelons in the industry and the savvy to present a clear and compelling
case for innovation, is clearly something whose practical consequences we
all still feel.

In my opinion, either Apple moves on to some significant implementation of
"smart" CMMs and CIECAM within ColorSync, or its relevance in ICC color
management will gradually fade.
We didn't need WCS to call our attention to the topic. CIECAMs predated WCS,
and their potential usefulness was already evident to those who paid
attention.
Apple has to choose whether or not it still cares enough to do what it ought
to know it must do to remain relevant, CM-wise.
