Yes, I understand that. "Away from LAB" meaning away from LAB as the
color model. Once LAB, or XYZ to be precise, is merely a transitory
component in the color model, and not the model itself, one can hardly
say it's still the LAB model. The very first step is in a CIECAM
transformation is to convert the XYZ values of your source color AND
surrounding environment (white-pont, black-point, and luminance), into
CIECAM's 6-dimensional space. THAT's now your working space, not LAB.
