Actually, for me, it's not as much that I want ColorSync to upgrade, but stay working correctly with Epson and Adobe. 12 years ago, Adobe was not the only name in town when it came to raster output software. We really couldn't expect Apple to get it right with all the vendors in town. Well now it's one of only a few. We have Adobe/OSX/Epson/Canon/HP for 2d photo-art system output. All I want is to know that my print in CS3/Leopard will work in CS4/5/SnowLeopard. All that needs to happen is for the team at Apple/Adobe/Epson to sit down on a few printers and run some tests. (The tests, that I might add, the user community just ran in the last 24 hrs to validate everything themselves.) These tests could happen before the OS comes out. Wow. What a novel thought!!!
Question. Has any print yet been done with CS5 and Snow Leopard and an Epson printer? Was this print measured against CS3/CS4 prints? Anyone? Apple says it will work. But does Adobe?
It doesn't seem like this simple test actually happened with CS3 and Snow Leopard and that is my concern. For me it's not about features, it's about stability. Microsoft deals with this all the time. They make hardware agnostic OSs. Talk about dealing with multiple vendors!!
From what I hear, there was never any conversation that went like.
"Hey, this is Joe Color over at Apple. Yo, Adobe and Epson, we changed some stuff and now your programs won't work with each-other anymore. Everything prints dark even with the correct v4 profile installed."
"Oh, ok Apple. We'll send over a couple of techs and maybe get together with Canon and HP and figure out some standards that we need to follow and come to a Apple-modify compromise that lets us not have to upgrade everything this time but lets us know what we need to do in the future to make everything work."
"Ok. We have a few months before the system ships, so lets get on this ASAP so we don't have to force our users to waste paper and deal with massive stress headaches for the next half year."
------
Because everyone uses Adobe and many many use Apple and many many use Epson, that printing path needs to remain sacrosanct. Killing (unwittingly or wittingly) a printing path just because an application (in this case CS3) is a couple of years old, is total BS in my opinion.
