I think that the point of many of these APIs is NOT for the average
user. It is to give the developers access to the SDKs which will allow
them to create apps for the enterprise, and various other business
environments. ICC support would be a glaring omission if it were not
available. This is a long-term play on Apple's part.
Apple is doing a lot with display technology. I imagine it is only a
matter of time before there are high-gamut panels available for use in
iPad-like devices. Short term: ICC will allow existing apps, movies, and
pictures to look right. sRGB shouldn't look blown-out just because they
are displayed on a high-gamut panel. The right way to fix this is with
ICCs. The wrong way is the generic curves which the current generation
of Android devices use to make videos look right (but leaves all other
elements blown out - glowing reds and greens - ugg!).
