Thank you, Ray.
Whenever I read words like "game-changer", or "things will never be the same
again", a hype alarm goes off in my head. But I also remind myself not to
close my mind to possibilities.
I found an article on the iPad by Reichmann at this other URL:
<http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/tablet.shtml>
Is this the one you had meant to point to?
A quote from it:
"The first impression is that as a tool for photographers the iPad has great
potential, but it isn't necessarily a game changer. Where it may well be a
transformative device is on the effect that it will have on the publishing
industry, in particular newspapers, magazines, and books, and therefore on
the photographers that create these images as part of their livelihood."
Not necessarily a game changer. But a device that will probably help
introduce a new relationship to what is now conveyed by means of magazines,
newspapers and books. And a good way to show one's portfolio too. That
sounds more plausible. :-)
Another quote:
"With the iPad magazines of all ilks will be crying for video segments, and
photographers that don't understand this needs, and who can't meet it, will
be made redundant."
The times when a craft was learned over a number of years and stayed pretty
much unchanged for a length of time are certainly gone. It gets harder and
harder as the years go on to keep up with it. But it's fun too, if the
changes are not too sudden, or catastrophic for one's own livelihood.
Reichmann's article also offers a link to this video, which shows an example
of how editorial content is created for use on the iPad:

As Reichmann says, "what a great time to be a photographer." As long as you
remain able to take it all in stride, that is, and not have a heart attack
instead... <g>
