I never had this mystery on my systems, but
- I hardly use a screen saver. My monitor goes to sleep after about 30 minutes.
- If I use a screen saver, I always use my own images (rgb JPEGs)
When comparing to your settings perhaps something is wrong with Apple's
images used by the screen savers.
My systems:
- single monitor per system
- calibration by basICColor display4
- 10.5.x, 10.6.2
