Thanks all for the enlightening discussion.
What I'm thinking of doing now is creating a small daylight-balanced print on the iPF8100, which should theoretically be minimally prone to color shifts under different illuminants. I'll then create color laser printer matches for a few different illuminants -- using Argyll's ability to create a printer profile with a custom illuminant, perhaps also with different amounts of GCR -- and arrange them all on the same sheet.
I'll probably include a gray ramp, as well. The iPF8100 has four gray / black inks, and theoretically uses them exclusively when R=G=B=0.
Does that seem reasonably representative? And, at the same time, are the effects likely to be dramatic enough to illustrate the point?
Robin, thanks for the pointer to the Munsell learning kit. I'll plan on getting it.
Chris, thanks for the pointer to Alexandrite. I've never heard of it before. I'll have to see if any local jewelry stores have any I could look at, and see if any of the synthetic varieties might be something I could possibly save up for.
Cheers,
