Well what I learned (and always felt) was that there was already better
language to describe the phenomenon that many colorants can behave
differently under different light, but metamerism failure only relates
to PAIRS of colorants that don't appear the same for whatever reason.
They could both be changing or maybe only one changes (constancy), but
possibly they only match as a pair under certain kinds of light
(metamerism). I suppose it's possible to have a metameric pair that
match under every light and yet they could both have very poor
constancy.
That's a vocabulary lesson that the lay person doesn't need to know, but
in here I think it's important that we agree on such terms because it
makes these posts easier and more clear in the future. Perhaps, because
I'm not a color scientist, I don't have enough information in my head
already to be confused by it. :o)

I have to agree with Marco on this. I thought that his original post
was clear and an attempt to help refine and tighten up the use of
vocabulary in these matters, not re-write color science and the
psychology of perception. It was a simple thing, but now this thread
has outlived its usefulness after having been hijacked several times.
I wouldn't call adding a term with a very wide and subtly different
meaning
"tightening up of vocabulary". I'd call it "adding to the confusion".
