IMHO the use of XML based ICC profiles (with the elements we have today)
is limited as e.g. a CLUT will continue to be a blob -- it is not
human-readable and no parser or DTD can prevent to fill it with nonsense.
Of course there are advantages in terms of flexibility, syntactical
verifiability and so on but there are also drawbacks in terms of
performance (compex parsers required) an file size. Maybe there is a way
combine both approaches, e.g. use an XML based format to construct,
verify and analyze profiles but a binary representation to store and
embed them. With this double tracked approach one looses many advantages
of a pure XML approach however and maybe the remaining advantages don't
justify the effort.
