Kamil,
you are right with your statement that with a TAC lower than 200 you
can´t print full secondary colors. With a good profiler though, you
can make profies with a total black that´s way under 200% while
leaving the secondaries alone. We´ve tested combinations of GCR and
UCR with black reading 40, 20, 0, 100 and it´s darker than 330% or
360% black! And the secondaries are just perfect.

Hi Jonathan,
something is wrong here ... TAC under 200% is too low, as you can't
achieve full secondary colors (you need 100M+100Y to get good Red,
right?) .. there are cases in which we use very low TAC, but i am
agree with Matt - this level of TAC i never seen at offset printer.
IMO you have problem with very high TVI, so check colors and
machine ...
Best regards
Kamil

So I've been working with some small newspaper printers that have
sheetfed offset for some time now and I have been asked if I can do
anything to improve their color on the newspaper side. Obviously TAC
is a big concern but what other things are of note that I should
take into consideration that are really different from commercial
sheetfed? They are running a TAC of 180 right now and claim that
this is as high as they can get it. Seems to me like something isn't
right for it to be so low. They are also running 100lpi. They are
open to some R&D to see if they can make the print any better. Any
advice?
Thanks,
