My biggest complaint regarding iOne Profiler and the general direction of X Rite is that they appear to be caught between catering to the consumer and the professional user. As a consumer tool the current offerings seem to be overkill, and for pro use, very important capabilities have been omitted leaving me stranded. I used to use parts of profile editor to load and compare CXF measurement files with various printer gamut views etc. Today these simple but useful capabilities appear to be gone.
While the UI is sexier than the older Profile Maker software, the bottom line for color is what the tools actually deliver.
For what it's worth, I have migrated to BasICColor Catch as my primary measurement tool. For example: BasICColor catch pro allows you to average SPECTRAL DATA instead of colorimetric which is by far the superior way to do it.The software also captures the spectral data from the instruments and calcualtes the colorimetric data. This gives a better inter-instrument agreement across instruments, models and even manufacturers than getting the colorimetric data from the same instruments.
BasICColor also offers profiling solutions that work (and cross-upgrades from the old Gretag or X-Rite) – Adaptable perceptual rendering intent, profiling for different lilluminations, batch profiling, averaging of colorimetric data etc.
For those trying to evaluate upgrading color management tools, I suggest downloading a trial of BasICColor. Before purchasing ANY digital hardware or software it is best to test it first. Once you buy it, you are stuck with it!
