I need a technical answer on this from the experts, please....
I have a low-end scanner - Canon MP560 - for web shots and quickie
prints, not professional by any standards, but I want to make the best
of it.
I profiled the scanner with an IT8 target and was able to create a new
scanner profile thereafter with SIPC scanner profile creator utility
based on Argyll's process.
Converting or applying the profile to scanned images immediately
rendered an improved image on screen. Great! more detail, whiter whites,
darker blacks and more discrete grays in previously filled in dark
areas. Ok - so this makes a better image for viewing on screen. This is
where I get stuck. If I want to make a web-friendly image with this
improved one, what should I do about the new profile when I need to
apply an sRGB profile for web - does it not overwrite the scanner
profile and render back a crappy image? On the same note - if I wanted
to print the improved image on an Epson or other device, and I have
profiles for the appropriate ink + paper combination, I have the same
dilemma... How to save the improved image with the scanner profile as a
new image with no profile, so that I can then apply the proper printer
profile at the output stage, or sRGB for optimal web viewing.....
Thank you in advance.
