The source profile's job is to get more accurate colors and densities from your scanner. Once thats done, move on, by converting to (not applying!) sRGB, so that the image is now in the appropriate color space for the web. Some scanners offer the option of an automated cascade where you apply the source, then convert to a workingspace before saving or exporting the scan to Photoshop.
