The automatically generated profiles with the long names are created in

/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/

You don't need to change those profiles, just leave them there.  If you want to create a profile that all users of a machine can use, you can place it in

/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/

If you're using the built in calibrator launched via System Preferences - Displays - Color tab, the "Calibrate" button, if you check Expert mode and go through the calibration process, at the end there's a checkbox "Allow other users to use this calibration".  This creates the profile in /Library/ColorSync/Displays but gives it permissions for all users to use.
