Offset presses for one....sheet-to-sheet variance is significant. Better to measure multiple sheets and average than play press sheet roulette and hope you picked the one magic sheet. :-)
For inkjets, there can be variance across the platen width of the printer.... printing 2-3 charts across and then averaging should help.
