I don't think that this has anything to do with piracy.
The Creative Suite was all about gouging customers with 18 month upgrade cycles whether the upgrades were worth having or not.
Adobe denied this but were undone by their own exec boasting about the profit boosts that 18 month cycling had yielded on his LinkedIn page!
[The "choice is yours" argument is entirely bogus as it only takes one large business in publishing to switch to InDesign 7 (or a piss taking x.5 release) and all of the other businesses in the production chain have to upgrade or go elsewhere.]
Switching wholly to monthly subscription is all about ensuring a constant flow of cash no matter how mediocre the development or service.
The pirates are still happily using the cracked versions of Adobe products while the legitimate customers are paying Adobe more and more for less and less.
