Agreed, believe it or not.
What I meant is that I agreed with Lars that the ICC intends levels of abstraction and that from the ‘upper levels’, profiles can be used for all intents.
This is perhaps best illustrated by the situation when a user selects perceptual as the intent to use when converting from a matrix-based working space profile to a LUT-based printer profile. The perceptual intent is not available in the matrix profile so the CMM falls back to using relCol for the input profile and perceptual for the output. In this case, I agree that it makes sense to present the user with the choice of perceptual intent and execute it as described.
It’s the case when neither profile contains perceptual mapping information that I think more information should be presented to the user.
