I may be wrong but in an "ideal" ICC implementation, the user would be free to select separate intents for both the Source and Destination.
So that, when converting from a matrixTRC Display Profile, the Source -> PCS transform would be executed according to the matrix/TRC while the PCS -> Destination would be executed in any of the supported Tags available in the Destination profile.
But I understand that would be asking a lot out of everyday Photoshop users...
The way Photoshop implements conversions since CS5.5 is fine for 99.99% of the cases. They have to keep is simple or they'll start to lose customers.
I mean, it works. It's just itching, sometimes, when we know no such underlying data actually exist to support the selected conversion type.
Like, convert from, say, sRGB to GRACoL2006 using Saturation? We all know that there is no "saturation" in sRGB.
Best / Roger
