Without being able to look at the code, it's hard to guess how profiles
are matched. If it is via MD5 for instance, then you can't get a match
if the profiles are different.
One way of telling is with a CMYK profile. The K will get re-generated
and any ink limit will be imposed if the profiles are being used.
So if the profile has an ink limit, putting CMYK 100,100,100,100%
through it should result in the same output if it is a null transform,
and something else if it is being looked up in the profile.
