Because that sets the expectation of the whole system as to the display characteristics.

I do not use my computer to reproduce content produced in “television studios”. So what
relevance does this have for the correct configuration of color management on my
computer?

But you produce images that you expect to look as you want them to look when
displayed on displays that are setup to look good when fed with images
that expect to be displayed on a 2.4 gamma display in a dim viewing environment.
