Never heard of ASCII, I see. I'd explain how everything past DEL is a modern
invention, but I'm not your introductory CompSci tutor.
Incidentally, that you're clueless as to how one would even hypothetically
contemplate arbitrary encoding schemes means that you are grossly unqualified
to discuss anything remotely mathematical on this subject.
I'm not kidding. This is first-freshman-week stuff, and nothing after would
even come close to making sense unless you're as comfortable with it as your
multiplication tables.
It's also stuff trivially derived from high school algebra....
