The data source property specifically is for hardware that allows for
multiple mutually exclusive ports/jacks to feed into the same point into the
hardware (usually at the ADC level but not necessarily).

For example, the built-in hardware on my Tip has two input sources: internal
microphone and zoomed video while the output has no sources. The input can
be switched to come from either port/jack, but can't give you both at the
same time.
