Do you know how loud an XServe runs? Perhaps convection cooled iMacs...

Hi David

Thanks, didn't know they are noisy. Maybe use the old studio standy,
equipment closet?

Equipment designed for rack mount is designed to run in machine rooms, that are noisy anyway, and are designed to pack as much heat generating hardware into as compact an area as possible and keep it at a good operating temperature, hence have serious fans. The XServe is very noisy, but that's very typical of that kind of equipment, not a flaw in the XServe. I could hear my rack mount IBM machine three rooms away.
Now, a stack of convection cooled cubes, on the other hand.
iMacs of course can be very quiet, but don't stack well :-)
Regards
David
