Hello,
There's something I've been wondering for a while.
Sometimes, which means frequently enough to notice and think of a
bug, but not in a reproducible manner, sound stops being played to a
given device, system-wide.
For instance, I've got two output devices here, SoundSticks and
Built-in audio controller. SoundSticks are the default ones.
Now, after using QuickTime intensively (I suspect QT has something to
do with this, but I don't have anough evidence), sound stopped
playing from the SoundSticks, in every application.
Some applications, like QuickTime Player, are simply "muted". Others,
like iTunes, do not advance the playback cursor. Maybe they receive
some feedback that the samples aren't flowing through, maybe it's the
apps using CoreAudio directly rather than through the Sound Manager.
I tried switching back and forth between the two sound output
devices. Built-in audio plays, the SoundSticks don't even after
switching.
When I have the SoundSticks selected and change the output volume, I
see loginwindow logging the following message:
Error who? occurred setting volm property of output channel 1 of device 11
Error who? occurred setting volm property of output channel 2 of device 11
Does this give you any clues? What could it be?
Best,
Alberto.
