That reminds me -- Hey Bill/others:

Is it required by the mLan spec that the local node always be registered as an mLan device? 'Cause if not, the new mLan support would seem to be wasting memory in the kernel:

| | +-o IOFireWireLocalNode <class IOFireWireLocalNode>
| | +-o IOFireWireUserClientIniter <class IOFireWireUserClientIniter>
| | +-o IOFireWireIP <class IOFireWireIP>
| | | +-o IOEthernetInterface <class IOEthernetInterface>
| | | +-o IONetworkStack <class IONetworkStack>
| | | +-o IONetworkStackUserClient <class IONetworkStackUserClient>
| | +-o IOFireWireUserClientIniter <class IOFireWireUserClientIniter>
| | +-o AppleMLANAudioDevice <class AppleMLANAudioDevice>
| | +-o IOFireWireUserClientIniter <class IOFireWireUserClientIniter>

I've noticed this on two QuickSilver G4's (neither one had any FireWire audio device, mLan or not, attached at the time). Bug? Feature? Something wrong on my setups?

Now that mLan is officially part of MacOS X, can we have more information about what
is available ?
Does it mean that a connected mLan device automatically appear in CoreAudio/CoreMidi
devices lists ?

Yes

I suppose that mLan devices like Yamaha interfaces need some supplementary software
to access the extra features (mixer, effects...).

Yes...

Does a Mac with 10.2.4 also behave like a mLan device ? (i.e. can I connect two 10.2.4 Mac
using a firewire cable and exchange Audio/Midi with no additional software ?)

I don't think so - but the driver guys who wrote this also keep an eye on the list, so they may have a comment
