Another useful resource for Audio formats is:
http://www.tsp.ece.mcgill.ca/MMSP/Docs/AudioFormats/index.html
where you can find the official specs for a number of formats and many
examples. There are several 'valid' AIFF files here some of which
Quicktime will not play:
http://www.tsp.ece.mcgill.ca/MMSP/Docs/AudioFormats/AIFF/Samples.html
I found that Soundhack will play some of the ones that QuickTime won't.
The AFsp library will write and read all of these. It will compile fairly
easily on OS X 10.2.x. You can access the AFsp source code from:
http://www.tsp.ece.mcgill.ca/MMSP/Docs/Software/index.html
(there is also some interesting DSP code here)
cheers,
Andrew
