As far as I know, I don't think anyone is capriciously discarding
the standard cc mappings. Instead, I think there is a reason for
those cases where they are not obeyed.

The original question was "why are the mappings being ignored?".
I think the simple fact is that (aside from volume) they are
largely irrelevant for the majority of synths being written
today, mostly due to the combination of increased complexity and
midi learn.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for consistency. I simply offered
an answer to the question: "why isn't there more of it?"
