Should I Use Audio Units

Hey,
I want to make a stand alone sampler program, that loads and plays,
edits samples of course. If I don't plan on using this program as a
plug-in... should I even bother with Audio Units? I also plan on having
a sequencer in it, but not use plug-ins at all.
