Glad to know someone finds this bug to be a "feature" ;-)
This bug will be fixed in the 1.0 release.... so squirrel away the
current version if it's useful!

Yep - it serves pretty much exactly what I need. If I click the 'open
editor' button on the left side of my plugin 'rack item' twice I get
two windows with my custom UI. I can see that adjusting a parameter
control in one instance of the UI also changes the same control in the
other instance - exactly what I was hoping for.
