Starting with the assumption that USB interfaces are cheaper than
FireWire,
and that PCI devices are undesirable because of the growing number of

outputs: 8) 24-bit analog + ADAT Lightpipe + S/PDIF optical +
headphone
$249 Terratec - Phase 26
outputs: 6) 24/96 analog + S/PDIF optical & coaxial + headphone
No experience with either of these, but they might be worth checking
out.
