I only did a quick check with top. I was just wondering if anyone has
already investigated this and determined if the cpu usage is in
low-priority threads that don't affect playback performance? If not,
I'll take a closer look.

fyi, I'm using Logic 6.3.3 with a 128 sample buffer size. Garage Band

Ehm, stupid question: how do you measure the CPU load? Hopefully not
via top, etc. The best thing is probably finding the maximum number of
instances till the overload case, because all standard tools just
measure the sum of all threads (either real-time (= audio and MIDI)
and non-real-time (like graphics, which is probably higher in GB, but
not important for the real-time performance))
Another thing: it is important what track is selected, because it can
change the CPU load (in Logic and GB)
