How are you measuring the CPU usage?

P.S. - Regarding the render slice sizes, both GarageBand and Logic have
preferences that you can adjust that affect this, plus also in Logic it is
also related to your hardware buffer size and also whether or not the
instrument track is the selected track in the Arrange window.
