Shaun, couldn't you just use Jack OS X to do the same as the forthcoming audio unit? It also provides an AU (or VST) plugin to route inserts as well...

I tried Jack a while ago, early in my development of MacFOH, and it worked okay but they had some conflicts. I'll see if I can make it work again when I get the chance. I think Jack is a great tool!

One of the benefits of MacFOH being able to patch into a recording app like Logic at various points in the chain is that you can see exactly how you are changing the signal path at each point, as well as measuring sample-accurate latency and delay values, visualizing the Transfer Function or Impulse Response between arbitrary inserts, and of course watching the frequency response... and it does this with extremely low CPU hit; it maintains full screen refresh rates with dozens of channels under analysis, displayed in one or multiple windows. I have a 64x64 channel audio matrix I/O and several other interfaces, and I've run 128 channels in a single RTA window which maintained about 20 fps. Even while Xcode is slamming both CPU's to 100% during a compile, MacFOH running at the same time rarely drops a frame with 8-24 channels running. I leave at least one MacFOH analyzer going nearly all the time, during Photoshop'ing, email, whatever. I even find it hard to listen to the radio without visualization, anymore... ;-)

BTW, nice looking app!!

Thanks! I have some 3D analyzer displays that I'm working on, too. I can't wait... this is one of those app's that's been fun to write, but a lot of work, and now I spend too much time just playing with it because it's so cool. Nice to have for AU development as well as for recording & mixing. I've got more work to do on my AU shell and the phantom audio driver, but expect to release them in 1st qtr 2005.
