In addition to the HAL Lab update, the best thing the CoreAudio team
could do to encourage adoption (IMHO) would be to update the
PhantomAudioDriver with sample implementations for every
IOAudioControl variant. I think you'd see much faster adoption if
driver developers had sample code to work from that they could just
paste in and hack on.

We are hoping to have an SDK release in July. That release will
contain a build of HAL Lab that has support for these properties;
we're hoping this solves the immediate problem of giving driver
writers an platform to test their implementation.
Then (well, you don't have to wait until then I guess!) you can
prod appropriate apps/drivers to support this feature.

Yes, but is Apple doing anything to encourage/bribe audio hardware

to implement playthrough controls? I'd really like to see someone
support
this, if only as a proof of concept that CoreAudio has the right
design. My
estimation is that MOTU are the best choice to prod, since some of
the other
hardware makers seem to be hard to work with.

To my knowledge, no one implements the play through controls,
including the MotU driver.
