AudioUnit: channel layout

Hello,

I'm developing my first audio unit and need some info on channel layout.

My audio unit can accept a variable number of channels (up to six) and put
out the same number of channels.

At some point, I need to know the number of channels, before processing
starts, rather then waiting till processing and counting the number of
channels present.

I'm using SupportedNumChannels but it is never called by AudioUnitHosting
or GarageBand.

Also kAudioUnitProperty_SupportedChannelLayoutTags is not being checked by
either AudioUnitHosting or GarageBand.

What do I need to do to get these functions to be used?

Thanks,

Chuck
