CA Feeder Thread

Hello.

Is it possible to set up a feeder thread with Core Audio that will call a render callback when audio data is needed, without attaching it to an output device?

Right now I have a thread that locks and waits to be signaled that data is available, but I'd prefer to do away with the locks.
