The perceived loudness is actually the same since mono playback
through speakers or headphones implies the same channel for both ears
as well (most people don't switch off one speaker and don't listen
with one ear if they have a mono source!)
I would have thought this, but in AULab if I insert a mono->stereo
plug-in on a track and then bypass it the track is louder than the
pure mono version, doesn't just seem louder either, it's peaking
considerably higher on the meters.
Is this because of the pan law in AULab, is there some attenuation of
the pure mono signal if it's panned direct centre?
