Seems pretty weird. There is no secret handshake that I'm aware of. In the testing I have done, it just works in each app I tried it in.

I'm not sure what to tell you at this point. On one hand, you are reporting the problem with the ComplexPlayThru sample code and your own code that is based on it. On the other hand, it seems to be the case that other apps on the same machine are working correctly with the iSight. That makes me think that the bug is likely inherent to that sample code. I'm at a loss as to what this bug might be, but it seems to be related to how it handles starting and stopping AUHAL. I'd debug it from that angle.

So I tried the sample app after disabling one processor, I also on several different machines in our lab, and I tried it on a powerbook G4. The only one it worked on was the powerbook g4.

However, in the process of banging on it I found I can get it to work on my duel processor machine if:

1) open the ComplexPlayThru application.

2) Open the sound system preference panel and select iSight as default input.

3) Leave the preference panel open and switch back to ComplexPlayThru

4) Start the audio playback on the Complexplaythru application

5) The audio input from firewire works.

If I don’t have the sound system preference panel open when I start the ComplexPlayThru application, it doesn’t work.

Once I’m running the ComplexPlayThru audio, I can close the sound system preference and it will continue to work.

Is there some sort of ‘secret’ initialization call or some timing / synchronization issue that I’m missing?
