AudioUnits Metering

Hi,
Is there any easy way to get the peak amplitude in the output or input
buffer of a audio unit? I see a parameter to turn on metering in the
coreaudio docs - kAudioUnitProperty_MeteringMode. But, I can't find the
corresponding paremeter or property to retrieve the amplitude value - is is
the same as kStereoMixerParam_PostAveragePower in stereo mixer? I would
imagine power and amplitude to be different, but if they are directly
proportional I could use it I guess. I am trying to plot the amplitudes, of
the file I am playing, on a timeline so as to get a wave graph as the ones
shown in sound editors. I imagine this is a plot of amplitudes..or am I on
the wrong track? Thanks

Regards
George M.P.
