Quicktime encoding of hi-res audio files

  • Subject: Quicktime encoding of hi-res audio files

Does anyone know how the Quicktime/CoreAudio AAC codec handles encoding high resolution audio files (ie 24 bit/96kHz)? Specifically, does Quicktime resample and lower the resolution to 16 bit before encoding? Would I be better off, in terms of audio quality, in doing the resampling in another application?

Sorry if this has been answered before; I'm a newbie here.
